Dear friend,
I have these friends in Chattanooga who are all sweetness and light. All eight of them, the whole family, blonde, long-legged, and full of pure bohemian charm. Walking into their home is like walking into a storybook. Actually, I've blogged about them before, here. The wax-dipped ginkgo leaves, I forgot about those! Manley and I got to spend a whirlwind of a time with them last night and this morning. Not even a 24-hour trip, but like honey to my soul all the same. Sarah has been my very dear friend since we were sixteen. Sixteen and as silly as they come.
It appears that somebody had chocolate for breakfast. Everybody needs chocolate for breakfast now and then. When and if (hopefully) I ever get to be a mom, I am going to let my children have chocolate for breakfast sometimes. And I'm going to have it too.
Now, you may have to look closely, but that pewter cheese serving set has three little mice on the knife handle, and a big mama mouse that sits on top of the cheese. EEEEEK! It was passed down to Sarah from her grandmother, but my Ebay search is on! Have any of you ever seen a similar set? I will pay you a finder's fee! Not even kidding!
Moonrise Kingdom opens tonight in Nashville and we are anxiously awaiting, tickets in hand. I'm nervous and excited because my expectations are so high, and I get unreasonably sad when films seem disappointing to me. In fact, that's why I don't watch many. Isn't that silly? Yikesies!

oh! i wish that moonrise kingdom would join me in central illinois. i've been wanting to see it, so let us know how it is and if it's worth a drive out of town. :)
I loved moonrise kingdom, but I didn't have high expectations, because I read some not so good recommendations on the internet ;) btw: the photos you took are lovely.
They all look so full of light! Sounds like you had a wonderful time :)

Mmm chocolate for breakfast... I really really want to see Moonrise Kingdom!
What a charming family and cheese set! :) I haven't seen that movie yet, but have heard really good reviews. I hope you all have a wonderful time taking it in.
I hope Moonrise Kingdom does not disappoint you! It was everything I hoped it would be. I want to live in their home!
Adorable! Chocolate for breakfast is so delightful, haha :) Lovely photos, they look delicious xx
You WILL be a mom..and you'll be a FANTASTIC one. We too are hoping to love Moonrise Kingdom...
And still, we haven't had our get together. I'm just so terrible at getting together. What a thing to be terrible at. Well, one day we'll be best friends. :)
What a beautiful family! And I'll keep my eyes peeled for that little cheese set. It's pretty darn adorable!
You'll have to let us know how Moonrise Kingdom is!
you wont be disappointed by the film (you have probably already seen it by now).
that cheese set is so darn cute!
One of the times we were in Paris, we would go each morning to a little bakery where you could sit at a counter and have lovely coffee and bread or pastry. One of my favourite memories is of a mother and her little son coming in. He was pointing to some sweets on the top of the counter and his mom said "no, for breakfast you should eat something nourishing like a chocolate croissant". :)
How fun you got to visit your friend and her family. The house it totally cute. I love the simple flower arrangement on the table. Oh, and I would be frothing at the mouth trying to beg my friend to buy that mouse set off of her lol

I just want to climb into your photos! And I LOVE the cheese set, and I LOVE her hair, and my kids have ice cream for breakfast every now and again. :)
Holy shit, what a beautiful blog you have!! I'm a mom and I let my daughter have chocolate for breakfast some days. ;)
Thanks for your comment over at my space. Nice to meet you.

Hi Rebekka! If you do an ebay search for a vintage 1977 Metzke Mouse Cheese Knife Set, you should find a few different listings for it!
There is truly nothing more magical than a long time friend. A true blessing.
as always, stunning photography. I can't help but say it.
xo em
What a beautiful family they must be! The mom's hair is beautiful and the kids are gorgeously dreamy and chocolaty, literally. Which I find totally normal.
When I was little we had a drawer filled with candy and sweets. I was a very disciplined child and would have never stolen anything out of the drawer, but I used to sit in front of it and stare with puppy eyes at it, so my mom would notice...And that is not because I rarely got to eat sweets, but because I loved them so much, that I preferred them over meals. So my wise mother developed this strategy of kindly asking me to eat 10 spoons of each meal and only afterwards allowing me (or rewarding me) to eat chocolate :) Oh those sweet days filled with sparkly memories...
Wishing you an amazing weekend!
Love,
Erika
Hello Rebekka,
Chocolate for breakfast is not a bad thing (once in a while).
When I found your blog a few weeks ago, I read through it all. I left feeling strangely happy, enlightened and a bit unpatient on your behalf. Unfortunately I never got to leave any words for you, as I had problems with my blogger account. In the end, I decided to start from the beginning. Nevertheless, I am very happy to return and feel so privileged to take a tiny part in your life. I think of you as a mother already, it is all there in your heart. As controversial as it may seem, there are women with children who are never mothers.
Beautiful new layout, an inspiring home - again I leave happy.
Beautifu weekend,
Lilli
i love (love!) that mouse cheese set too! i'll keep any eye out for you... :)
I loved Moonrise Kingdom - but, I was with two people that are in their mid-30's & they didn't get a lot of the humor. Having said that, I think the appeal for me, was the clothes, decor, the family dynamics and the fact that I had the same lunch box as the lead girl. Ahhh! I'm a child from the 1950's.
Don't you worry sweet girl, it WILL happen. Give us a movie review please? (And I'm glad to see we aren't the only ones that have chocolate for breakfast. :) ) http://beccabluepicked.blogspot.com/2011/02/chalk-it-up-to.html
This is my first comment on your blog space - it's a lovely, enchanting blog. I truly hope your little girl from Ethiopia comes to you speedily; I was adopted by sweet, kind parents and can only hope the same for you and your daughter.
And on a side - I see that one ended 4 days ago on ebay.. it's hopeful that they're out there! Hopefully you'll get your hands on one soon!
the music of children is truly a blessing. One that you will experience soon, dear friend x
Jodi mentioned you on her blog and I am so glad she did - your blog is beautiful and I love your work. I will be back x
I'm new here and I have to say I just love your blog. I too would like to be a mother one day and I think eating chocolate and cake indeed for breakfast once in a while is perfectly wonderful! Hope you're having a fabulous weekend. x
love your work! especially your house series, really charming. x, from a fellow illustrator in italy.
I see absolutely nothing wrong with a little chocolate at breakfast time.
How did you like the movie? I haven't seen it yet.
What gorgeous pictures!!! I just discovered your blog and I love it! I'm a new follower.

visiting you for the first time - sent here by friend Velvet Verbosity. Did a perfunctory search on ebay and here is your mousie knife: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Pewter-Metal-Mouse-Mice-Cheese-Knife-Dip-Spreader-Appetizer-Metzke-1977-/200694178882?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eba4e2442#ht_500wt_1180
Did not find the same mama mouse, though.
thank you for letting me visit.
I really hope you liked Moonrise Kingdom! I loved it. so sweet and silly. xo!
I found the same ebay listing for the knife, and here is what I think is the mouse, along with a little cat, because the cat takes the mouse, the mouse takes the cheese, the cheese stands alone.

What a stunning family! That little one. His gorgeous locks. Way too cute! And agreed on the chocolate. It's good to let kids indulge once in a while, as long as it's good quality product.
Karina...my thoughts precisely!!!

What did you think of the movie? I thought it was beautiful to "look at" and I could watch the shots of the children/family in the house over and over and over. Was it the best movie I ever saw? Probably not but it had enchanting moments and in the end I liked it very much.
You haven't lived until you've had chocolate for breakfast!
x
Chocolate for breakfast...hmm, I don't think Easter would have been so special if I'd had it more than once a year as a child...but every now and then wouldn't take the excitement away too much, would it?
