Floppy florals

Dear friend,

Shame on me for staying inside and working all day on a day like today when the sky is bluer than sapphire. I just stepped outside to retrieve a package from the UPS man and September hit me right in the face, in all its clear-skied glory. Fall! The good news is, the package had this painting in it, which I ordered from this Etsy shop last week. I am really into these antique, floppy floral paintings...most of the ones I've collected don't even have signatures but they're so lovely. I've been thinking about doing a series of my own lately, inspired by my little collection, but on thick, dappled watercolor paper, in gouache and ink. And sell them in my shop. Original paintings! Wouldn't that be fun?

The other two pieces of art in the first photo, because I'm expecting you will ask, are by my friend Colleen, and you can purchase those silhouettes in her Etsy shop. I think they're so darling. She did the framed doily too, which I love.

I'm ready to start knitting already. I want to knit something the color of this....the colors of stone and maple and firewood and embers and gingko leaves. The colors of Fall.

Love,

Rebekka

when I saw the first photo I hoped this was one of your own paintings and you were going to say you were posting a collection on etsy, so yes, please post original paintings!

That floral painting is beautiful! I bet yours would be simply stunning. I was bad today as well and only left the house to take out the compost scraps...perhaps I shall go for a small walk to make myself feel better about things, before the sun starts to fade. ;)

It certainly looks like it belongs in your home. I think you must consider adding original paintings to your shop - your work is so lovely. But I'm wondering if there's any chance of your knitting finding your way into the shop - that yarn! I think it needs to be a hat.

I just have to say that I love, love, love your blog! Both your photographs and words are so beautifully peaceful. We too are adopting a little one from Ethiopia so I deeply empathize with your posts related to adoption. I just wanted to stop over to say hi and that I really enjoy this sweet little space you've created on the web!

Beautiful painting. I recently decided we need more art in our house, so because of our budget constraints, I made a few things. And surprisingly, I love them!

I am sure your original floppy flower paintings will be beautiful.
